Taking Halloween to a whole new level

These two guys decided to take Halloween to a WHOLE new level. Dropping about $1000 each, they bought plasma tv’s to hang from their bodies- but then to hook their iphones up to them so that the screen would be projected on the tv- and looked like a huge iPhone.

They sure went all out- while Justine and I decided to do lowkey and get piece of our costumes from Goodwill. (See previous post)

Pakistan Fashion Week

I love my parents, they keep me updated on the world which I so happen to ignore as I’m living in my little college bubble. This morning my mom linked me to an article from The Independent titled “Pakistan fashion week begins under shadow of Taliban.”

Setting: Wednesday, November 4 to Saturday, November 7
Pakistan fashion week- Karachi, Pakistan; Mariott Hotel

The organizing group went through a ton of work to make this happen, especially in a country wear women are usually covered and have a lower class standing compared to the male counterpart. For there to be lights, runways, and female models walking down in local fashions is a HUGE deal.

It was originally scheduled to be in October, but because the situation in the country they postponed it until this past week. Also because of security reasons- they limited the designers and models to come from the country versus internationally. Even so, they gathered up 32 designers from around the country.

WOW…I think this is absolutely amazing. It shows that when people have an idea, put 110% in, and run with it- BIG things can happen.

Back from hiatus!

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of posts lately, school has had all my attention for the past few weeks…er…months. That being said, I feel like I haven’t even done much other than school, so I don’t have much to blog about …but thankfully, Christine has been doing so well in updating and has managed to capture a lot of what I have done FOR me (because we are one entity haha). What would I do without her??

Anyway, something I have been doing is following youtube makeup/beauty channels! I never thought I would get into it, but I have found some really interesting and informative ones. Here are some I’ve been watching:

OKAY. So before you guys say anything, I know these girls (and other similar channels) may seem superficial, wear too much makeup, only care about their appearances, etc. but they actually have great reviews on the latest makeup products and you can learn some helpful techniques for makeup application by watching the tutorials! I would never wear as much makeup as them on a daily basis, but I can’t deny they do their makeup pretty well and like I said, I’ve learned some techniques by watching these videos. Also, somehow they can afford all the latest beauty products (like the newest M.A.C. collections, Lush products, etc.) and they have videos that review them. So, instead of spending all the money I don’t have on makeup I might not use, I just watch these videos if I’m curious about certain products. If anything, they’re fun to watch for a quick study break!

Bountiful Joy for <$15

Halloween has come and gone- Justine and I went to 4/5 different costume parties in the past week. Since we of course can’t wear the same costume at every party- we wanted to keep things on the cheaper side. It’s always fun to dress up in multiples (pairs, triples, etc) we decided to be Mario & Luigi!

Thrift shopping is all the rage- so we decided to hit up some second hand store to get some ultra flattering shorteralls (insert sarcasm). Why are shorteralls so ill fitting? I looked like a farmer. And a boy. And not cute. But we made it all work and the costume in it’s entirety came out great! Plus you can’t go wrong with wearing mustaches…it’s a great conversation starter too

Shorteralls- $5ish (Goodwill)

Tees- $4 (Forever21)

Lace Gloves – $4 (WetSeal)

**Mustaches and hats already owned.

EXTRA plus- we didn’t have to be all scantily clad for Halloween to have successful costumes. EXTRA EXTRA PLUS- shorteralls have abundant numbers of pockets. POCKETS ARE AWESOME.

So a few weeks ago, Justine and I went to Nordstrom at Arden Fair Mall to get our makeup done. We Ididn’t have any occasion to get it done, but we signed up with the girl at the Smashbox counter about a month before because they were having some big event all through the cosmetics area at Nordstrom.

Justine opted for a natural look, I on the other hand decided to let the makeup artist just have fun and do anything to me…mistake? YES.

Justine’s makeup looked REALLY GOOD (I’m sad I didn’t take pictures…). Very clean and something to wear on a regular basis. A+ !!

I think I had about 5 different colors on my eye, and not in a good way- I’m actually not sure if there is a good way to do that but if there is then it wasn’t this. I looked like a CLOWN. First off, apart from the crazy colors, the makeup artist didn’t know how to put makeup on Asian eyes. But all in all it was fun to go get makeup put on you…and also where the Smashbox counter was- it faced all the wonderful handbags: think Marc Jacobs and Gucci <3

I ended up buying one of their new holiday sets….I LOVE IT. I have a soft spot for kits or pallets, and this one just happened to have 5 makeup brushes with PINK handles. Couldn’t pass that up. And we also got some mini samples.

We finally left and I was able to rub off some of my eye makeup before going into the next store…

Fall

Yup- fall is upon us…also resulting in the lack of posts. School’s got us supa supa busy.

Sorry folks!

But Justine and I hosted a Tea Party for our Textiles and Clothing department a few weeks ago.

We made the decorations (all under $5…yeahhhuuhh!) and had people bring little tea treats to share. It turned out to be a GREAT success
